Todd Sieleman began his safety career in 1984 as a Police Officer in the U.S. Air Force where he developed mishap prevention programs and performed post-accident investigations. Following active duty, Todd continued his military career in the Air Force Reserve as a Safety & Health Manager responsible for multiple regulatory programs including OSHA general industry and construction, DOD Explosives/Munitions Safety, and FAA Aviation/Flight Safety. In his career Todd deployed in support of military operations in Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan. He ended his 20-year career retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8); Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the base Safety Office.
In his civilian occupation, Todd was employed at the U.S. Postal Service in the District Safety Office where he managed OSHA, EPA, and DOT programs and assisted with state Worker’s Compensation Program requirements impacting hundreds of post offices, and over 11,000 employees. Todd also served as District Emergency Manager developing and administering contingency plans for response and recovery actions to natural disasters and terrorist actions, and conducting training exercises in support of National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols.
Todd joined OSHA Region VII in 2009 as a Compliance Safety & Health Officer (CSHO) and accomplished scores of audits and accident and fatality investigations. He was eventually selected to serve as one of approximately 50 individuals nationwide as a Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) to provide support to businesses and trade associations by delivering training, education and subject matter guidance to help meet the myriad of OSHA requirements. Todd represented OSHA at numerous conventions and safety conferences providing new information, program updates, and training on a vast array of topics.
In 2016, Todd retired from federal service as Assistant Director of the Kansas City Area OSHA Office. In this capacity he managed the effective administration of federal occupational safety laws within companies in the western half of the state of Missouri. Todd’s responsibilities included developing OSHA strategic initiatives and operations planning, managing the performance of assigned compliance officer staff, and directing all enforcement actions related to inspections and accident investigations. Additionally, as Assistant Area Director, Todd presided over OSHA citation settlement conferences with employers on a daily basis, and directed all activities related to successful litigation of contested cases before federal magistrates working in close coordination with OSHA trial lawyers.
